The Closet Classifier

Problem: New Product Strategy:
As a college student, living in a dorm, I have learned to appreciate closet space a great deal. Searching online for space savers made me realize that there is a large number of people who need more space in their closets for their growing amounts of clothing. I could have just thought of an idea for ways for people to have more space for their belongings. Instead I realized that in most situations the lack of closet space is due to excessive amounts of clothing. Having a large amount of clothing most likely means having a hard time finding the particular items you are looking for. This led me to the idea of The Closet Classifier. This product makes it easier and faster for people to find the things they need from their closet.
Idea Generator:
There are numerous people to whom closet space is not an issue due to large walk-in closets designed to fit as much clothes as someone can purchase. However, I’d imagine finding what you need out of that huge closet would be time consuming. The Closet Classifier is a computerized system where a search engine is used to locate the article of your choice. This idea came from a numerous amount of things combined. One thing that helped me think of this product was the movie Clueless where one of the characters had a computerized closet that spun in a circle, much like one found in a dry cleaners. The next came from The Dewey Decimal System found in libraries. Where someone can search for a book and they are told where the book is located in the library instead walking up and down aisles. The last contributor to my idea is the ordering system used at Sheetz. The customer uses a touch screen to select and order what they want.
In the Closet Classifier someone can search for what they want and select from pictures of their clothes. Each article has a classification number where the owner can find it easier. For example someone wants to find a short black dress in their large closet and doesn’t know here to being. With the Closet Classifier they simply touch dress then, black and next, short. Next they are shown all their short, black dresses and they can select the picture of the one they want to wear. They are given the number of the dress so they know where to find it, just like in a library.
Business Analysis:
The target market for this product is for wealthy people. People who have whole rooms devoted to their clothes and have enough clothes to be classified would love this product. The demand for this product is limited but for the ones who can use it, the demand would be high because it is very practical.
